Fishing on the Tay River

The River Tay was one hour away from Edinburgh. We fished an area of the strait, or 'beat' that was managed by a 'gillie' named Bill, who's about 80 years old and lives in a blue hut along the river with a black lab dog. He talked in a heavy Scottish accent and he was out chainsawing a fallen tree on the other side of the river. The river was very swollen and fast today, coming down only a few feet from recent floods. The water was cold and fast. We used spin rods with fish-like spoons called 'Toby.' I caught only one immature Salmon called a 'Kelt' around 11:00 AM. A Kelt is a salmon which spawned last year and is planning to go out the sea again. The fish just weren't biting that day. We wore waders in the cold stream and casted in the cold and wind, and depite only one fish, it was a memorable day of fishing.
