How do Princes Get Married?

The civil marriage took place in ‘de Beurs van Berlage’, the former Commodity Exchange. Mr Cohen, the Amsterdam Mayor, wedded the Royal couple. Without this ceremony, the marriage would be null. Only the civil wedding is legally valid. A church ceremony may follow the civil marriage, but only if the couple wants to pledge their troth before God.

’De Beurs van Berlage’ was designed by the famous architect H.P. Berlage. It was opened in 1903 and not everybody was pleased with the result. It is made of brick, takes up a prominent part of ‘het Damrak'', the street in front of it, and was considered ‘too modern’. These days it is seen as an innovation and a source of inspiration for future architects.

Nowadays ‘de Beurs van Berlage‘ houses exhibitions, Trade Fairs, and if you have money to spare you can have your dinner party here. The minimum number of guests is 300, and be sure that there are no more than 1000 guests. If you have a reception here you can invite up to 2000 guests.

If this is impossible for you, the best way to see the interior is to visit one of the many interesting exhibitions which are held here on a regular basis.
