Stillhouse Hollow Lake is an impoundment of the Lampasas River about 5 miles southwest of Belton. It was built by the Army Corps of Engineers between 1962-1968 to provide flood control for the Brazos River Valley. The dam is 15,624 feet long and the lake is 6,430 acres. The lake level will fluctuate, though they strive to maintain it at 622 feet.
Dana Peak, on Comanche Gap Road off of FM 2410, and Stillhouse Park, on Simmons Road off of TX 190, are the best bets for swimming. The lake has an irregular shape and rocky, chalky shores.
Other parks around the 58 miles of shoreline have facilities for water-skiing, sailboarding, boating and Jet Skis. Camping sites and numerous picnic areas can be found throughout the parks. Chalk Ridge Falls has an environmental nature trail that winds behind the dam; a small waterfall provides lovely scenery from a suspension bridge, and swimming below the dam is permitted. Cedar Gap has a boat ramp. Overlook Park has a picnic area with a breathtaking view. River’s Bend Park also has picnic facilities. Union Grove Park has picnicking, camping and boating. Group picnic pavilions are available by reservation. A day-use park at the marina on the northeast shore has a playground and picnic facilities, as well as swimming off a small peninsula. Stillhouse Hollow Lake is rarely crowded
