My family and I found a Howling Dog Tours pamphlet while dining out one evening in Canmore. We were surprised and excited to be able to take part in such a wonderful adventure. We browsed through all their tour offerings, finding on the back how much cheaper they were then another company. Without checking further into the prices and tours of any other companies we decided to go with Howling Dog. Their pamphlet said that we could harness the dogs and handle them - We didn't get this opportunity, we weren't even offered it! We asked the guide if we could help with harnessing but she replied "the dogs are too difficult to handle if they don't know you." The pamphlet also said that we myself, my husband, 2 teenagers and a guide all on one sled so our team was really slow, and the ride was pretty uncomfortable. We did get the chance to go down to the lake for photos which was nice. The experience all together was not really what they promote in the pamphlet, it's actually the total opposite and to be quite honest not worth the money.
We passed another group on the trail that seemed to be having a really great time and going a lot faster than we were, we think it was another outfit. If you are interested in dog sledding for an adventure I would recommend doing some research first.

You have to try it at least once in your life. Nothing better than to be snuggled up next to your loved one being wisked through the woods by a team of dogs! We chose the Dog Day Afternoon, the half-day tour, which included a snack (beef jerky, smoked salmon, cheeses, and dried fruit), a hot beverage, and a choice of a hot lunch item. We also got to try out the hand out at mushing! They take you down to a frozen lake where the view is incredible! (The only downside was that the dogs do not stop when they have to go to the bathroom -- p.u.!)
