We took this cruise on 9/11/2001 not knowing our lives would be changed forever when we stepped off. We had no idea what was going on in America at the time we started the cruise. After ordering some drinks at the bar on board, the bartender knew by our accents we were American and told us he had a bit of bad news for us. When we took the train ride they told us "the tower blocks are down." Of course we had no clue this meant both of the World Trade Towers had collapsed. It was a surreal ride back to the pier as we looked at the most beautiful and peaceful Lake Windermere. The village of Bowness on Windermere is like storybook England.
