If you think that the building is unique, wait till you see what's inside.

In 1931, the frugal school board members of Lumber Township purchased this prefabricated two-room school house for a mere $3,600. After more than 30 years of use as a school, it was deserted because of the consolidation of the schools. The building was donated to the Cameron County Historical Society, which has maintained the building since then. This may be one of the last surviving Sears Simplex sectional two-room school house left - IN THE WORLD! In today's society, it is not unusual to spend millions of dollars on a new building that wouldn't likely be around as long as this little treasure. In 1971, the little museum opened the doors of the building to the public as The Little Museum. In 1976, an addition was added to display military and personal items from General Joseph McNarney, a native of Cameron County who was a four-star general in the Air Force during WW II.

The museum contains historical photos, furnishings, tools, kitchen items, and more. The volunteer guides are happy to answer any question that you may have, pull a genealogy surname file, or offer a brief history lesson. Because of the large quantity of items in the museum and the changes in the displayed items, going to the museum once will not be enough. I have been there a dozen times, and every time that I go, I see something that I had never seem before. This little building is packed FULL of history.
