Mountain High

Don't quote me on this, but the mountain has about a 1,800-foot vertical, so if you ski hard, you can go top to bottom in about 5 to 10 minutes. Having said that, when the conditions are good, this place is great. Mt. High got over 6 feet of snow in late February, so the base is still very good. Conditions today were nice, but it was late spring skiing -- a little slushy, especially towards the bottom. Heavy snow is not necessarily the end of the world; however, things were getting icy and nasty by around 4pm.

My recommendation below is based on using Mt. High when the conditions are good. Go to their website, www.mthigh.com, and you can see conditions, web cams, daily pictures, and they will even email and tell you when you should skip work.

Usually, I always visit the west resort, which is more packed with snowboarders, with more terrain on the run. This time I tried the east resort. With fewer crowds, one lift is not that bad. There are three main runs, with Gold Rush on the left, which is a blue run. On the right is a black run, which is a bit steeper. I enjoyed both runs a lot. It's about 1.6 miles long and a wide run without terrain. It is highly recommend for a short ski trip. Save on your driving time and gas, and of course, the lift ticket is more reasonable.
