Every time we've gone to South Seas, we've wanted to try the Dolphin Encounter Cruise. Well, this year we finally made it! One of the amazing things about Captiva is you will see wild dolphin frolicking in the Gulf water, and this cruise advertises dolphin sightings. Supposedly, a dozen or so dolphin usually greet the boat and will race with it. The captain won't guarantee you see a dolphin, but they were quite confident we should see some.
Unfortunately, that day was not our day. It was one of only 4 times that the cruisers did not see dolphin!
However, I still encourage anyone to take this lovely cruise around Captiva. The volunteer narrator gives a terrific historical account of the island, plus a ton of information on the local wildlife.
Even though we didn't see any dolphin, we enjoyed the boat ride and the scenery. In addition, the captain gave us a raincheck ticket (which we gave to some other folks who incidentally saw about 15 dolpin on their cruise!).
