The Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens were breathtaking! You want to plan for an extended stay here, at least 2 hours. The gardens are located right on Highway One and are laid out beautifully. There are blooms year round, so anytime you come there's something to see. There are several mini gardens set up, including vegetables, roses, rhododendron, roses, heather, iris's, succulents, forest, the list goes on and on. In the first major section there are deer gates up, in the later half wild animals (deer) are allowed to roam.

There is a great walk from the entrance out to the coast cliffs that is spectacular. We plan to go back and take a picnic lunch (which is encouraged) to explore the gardens and walk all the way out and visit the Parrish Family Cemetery which is also on the site. There are plenty of little trails and benches to sit on. There are also picnic tables throughout the gardens.

The cost is $7.50 for adults, $6 for seniors, $3 for kids 13-17, $1 for kids 6-12 and free for those 5 and under. There are coupons in the local tourist magazines for $1 off (they even have some there if you need one) and discounts are offered for local residents.

You are welcome to bring well-mannered dogs on leashes, we saw several well behaved ones on our journey. There is also a gift shop and bountiful nursery.

Open daily except for Thanksgiving, Christmas and the Saturday after Labor Day.
Hours: 9am - 5pm March-October and 9am - 4pm November-February.

Mendocino Coast Botanical Garden

Open Daily: Mar - Oct: 9 am to 5 pm; Nov - Feb: 9 am to 4 pm. The garden leads you down different paths of your choosing where you see all species of plant-life. If you go early in the morning the dew will still be on the flowers. At one point there is a little bridge over a stream that makes you believe you are somewhere like a forest. The grounds are well kept and very lush. Stop at the small gift shop on the way out to pick up a plant or a postcard.
