I was simply awed by the Mactan Shrine. It is dedicated to the Chief Lapu-Lapu, who was the first native Filipino to resist invasion by European colonizers. A life-size statue of Lapu Lapu can be viewed outside the Mactan Shrine park area. A painting that depicted the war of Lapu-Lapu against Ferdinand Magellan, the first European visitor, is a creation of one of the Philippines's National Artists. The war originally took place in one of Cebu's sea-front towns. Both natives and Spanish soldiers were in full battle gear and fighting each other to their last breath.
