In the fall season, you can head out to this orchard and do some fresh fruit picking at the large and lush Strawberry Acres. Funnily enough, there are no strawberries grown at this orchard, despite its name. The owner explained that strawberries are hard to grow because inclement weather makes them moldy quickly, so he decided to stick to a few other kinds of fruit.
When you arrive you can check in at the window and tell the workers what you want to pick. Depending on what's in season, you can pick apples, peaches, pears, cherries, and even raspberries. A bus takes you to whichever orchard you're headed to, and the orchard will supply you with cardboard boxes to fill up with your fruit. Each box will run you $15-$20.
The orchards are full of fruit, but unfortunately, the workers of this orchard don't give you much free reign. They'll assign you an 'area' and you generally have to pick your fruit from one of a couple of trees. It kind of takes the fun out of picking it yourself. But it’s still fun.
After you've picked your apples or whatever, you take the bus back to the main area, and pay for what you picked. There's a gift shop with all kinds of food and goodies. There is also a picnic area for lunch, pony rides for kids and animals to feed and watch in pens.
