Kalam minaret

When it was built in 1127, the Kalam minaret was the tallest building in the muslim world. It is a wonderful piece of work: 47 meters tall with a 10 meter deep foundation, which in 850 has never needed any repairs. Ghengis Khan, when he destroyed the city, was so dumbfounded by it that he ordered to leave the minaret intact. He said 'this minaret is higher than me so I respect it!' It was also used as a beacon and watchtower, and even some Emirs threw criminals off it until forbidden to do by the Russians. You can climb at the top for half price, if you find the owner of the door's key.
