PUNTA DE MITA - this stretch of coastline offers 8 miles of reef breaks with both left and right breaks.
SAYULITA - picking up west to northwest swells, this left and right break is located 10 minutes south by car.
SAN PANCHO - Costa Azul's local break offers a great left break on a mixture of rock and sand. This break is just a 10 minute walk down the beach from the resort.
MATACHEN BAY- located 1 1/2 hours to the north, it is the world's longest ridable wave This spot offers three different point breaks.
OVERNIGHT TRIP TO PASQUALES-
Surfboards at Costa Azul- Costa Azul has a variety of different sizes. Their newer models are surfboards designed by Y, called the swizzle. For more information on these boards visit Y at www.yboards.com. If you plan on surfing, the resort definitely recommends bringing your own board since there's no guarantee that there will be enough boards for everyone. Boards are on a first come, first serve basis.
Never surfed? This may be the place and time to start. At Sayulita, I watched surfers of various ages and abilities catching the point break, waiting patiently for long minutes on end to catch the wave. And closer to shore, there was a little surfer-in-training, all of five years old, launching himself out from the beach to catch his own little wave back in.
Surf Lessons- Corky Carroll's Surf School can teach you a sport you can enjoy for life. For more information about Corky Carroll's Surf School check out their web site: www.surfschool.net
