Nearly everyone who visits the north of Jamaica will probably take a trip to the Dunn's River Falls. It's one of the areas most developed tourist attractions. However, the best way to "do" the falls in my opinion is to combine it with a boat trip. The Club Caribbean runs a trip three times a week. Passengers are ferried fron the Club Caribbean jetty by small motorboat to the waiting Catamaran. When we went, there were only six of us, so it was like having your own private boat. We sailed along the coastline and down to Ocho Rios. The waterfall can be viewed from the boat, cascading virtually into the sea itself.
Our boat moored up and we were given our own private guide who "walked" us up the falls (remember to tip the guide). It was an exhilerating experience to say the least, and easier than I thought it was going to be. At the top of the falls area there are various tourist shops and such, but we decided to give those a miss and hurried back down to the beach (via steps) for a swim in the beautifully warm clear blue water. Then it was back on our boat and off to a little private cove where we moored up and had our lunch. We'd been expecting a barbecue so we were a bit disappointed to only get sandwiches and fruit. However, the propensity of red-stripe and rum punch soon raised our spirits once more and we were all singing as the boat sailed back later into Club Caribbean.
