A Walk in the Woods

Hiking varies from wheelchair access to extremely hazardous. You can walk along a level, paved trail to the high gorge overlook to see the Blackwater Falls far in the distance. Or take the well crafted wooden stairs down into the gorge and see the falls from an observation platform quite close. If punishment is your objective try hiking straight down over the cliffs of the gorge, but be prepared to pass warning signs urging you not to do it! There are a number of beautiful hikes into the hemlock forests where blazes on trees keep you on the trail. Also enjoy trying to find the fourteen water falls that here and there spill out of the woods and over the edge of the gorge.
