This trip to Echuca was organised by Lakeside Numurkah and included bus transer from the resort to Echuca and return, a tour of the port and a river cruise. Good value at $30. It was certainly worth taking the port tour to find out about this historically significant area. The star hotel included an escape tunnel for patrons not wishing to get caught drinking while on duty! (For a time, the pubs where closed to discourage drinking! As if that would deter a dedicated Aussie!)
The tour guide was one of the local characters. He had a wealth of knowledge which was delivered in a humorous way. He also had cockatoos and galahs to keep him company (he was a wildlife carer!). In between conducting tours, he played an accordian, with a strategically placed container for donations. A busker with a job!
The boat trip on the Pevensey (aka Philadephia from the "All the Rivers Run" television mini series) was well worth doing. There is something romantic about steam driven paddle boats, and it gave a different view of the river and the surrounding area.
The children certainly enjoyed the cruise. Some of the older ones where given an opportunity to captain the boat. (We didn't run aground!) This was an activity that was reasonably priced and suitable for the whole family.
