Whether it's hiking the Trail of the Cedars from nearby Avalanche Lake, or whitewater rafter with Wild River Adventures, you're sure to spend most of your time outside at Glacier National Park.
With over 700 lakes, Glacier National Park leaves no shortage of aquatic destinations for intrepid hikers. Two Medicine Lake is a popular destination for hiking and fishing, boasting some of the best brook and rainbow trout fishing in the park. Grinnell Lake is another stunning spot, its waters colored an opaque turqoise by silt from the nearby Grinnell Glacier, while the 3,000 foot tall Iceberg Peak makes the Iceberg Lake Hike another popular option.
Only a two mile hike from the much-frequented Avalanche Lake, Trail of the Cedars rewards hikers with beautiful groves of 80-foot cedar, and is easily accessible from Going-to-the-Sun Road. The vistas continue at St. Mary's and Virginia Falls. These falls are only a half-mile hike apart, and both also accessible by a trailhead off Going-to-the-Sun Road. If you're visiting the park in summer, be sure to take a trip to Logan Pass, located at the highest point of Going-to-the-Sun Road, just along the continental divide. Try the Highline Trail, which winds along the west side of the divide, through the wildflower-laden Garden Wall, while keeping your eyes peeled for the mountain goats that frequent these parts.
If you're feeling adventurous, give white-water rafting a shot, and let Wild River Adventures take you there. Among their half and full-day offerings are fly fishing trips, scening floats and inflatable kayaking expeditions. The Glacier Wilderness Guides & Montana Raft Company are another ecologically sensitive choice, providing guiding, river rafting, hiking, packaging, fishing and rafting trips.
