From the attic cathedral of the Amstelkring to the amusement rides and bars at the Heineken Brewery, Amsterdam is packed with attractions sure to suit even the most discerning tourist.
One of the most popular spots in Amsterdam is the stirring Anne Frank Huis, a museum dedicated to the Frank family, housed in the annex in which they hid from the Nazis for two years before being caught. More distant history of the city can be found in the Amsterdams Historisch Museum, housed in what was once a 16th century orphanage. Art lovers will feel at home in the Rijksmuseum, whose permanent collection specializes in paintings from the Dutch Golden Age, while the nearby Van Gogh Museum houses the world's largest collection of works by everyone's favorite post-Impressionist.

While many come to Amsterdam for the city's rich history and world-class museums, none can ignore the city's infamous Red Light District.
