One of the oldest medieval cities in Europe, Old Rhodes Town is a sightseer’s delight, boasting beautiful palaces like the restored Palace of the Grand Masters, and the stately ruins of the Palace of the Knights of St. John dot this once Ottoman-occupied town, which boasts some excellent shopping and great nightlife at spots like Eclipse Bar on the Lardos end of town.

You’ll definitely want to take a walk along the Western Harbor Wall, bordering Rhodes’ Mandraki Harbor. Over these waters the legendary Colossus of Rhodes once supposedly stood guard, while now the bronze Rhodian Deer, perched on tall columns, stand in his stead. The entire walk provides sweeping views of the harbor and the walls of Old Rhodes Town. Not to mention a host of cafes and restaurants that serve the freshest of the harbor catch every day.

Architecture lovers must visit the Captain’s Houses in Lindos. These 16th and 17th century merchant’s mansion boast original colorful pebbly floors and ornate doorways, and many are still home to large families. Ancient Kamiros is another fascinating trip, where visitors can explore the ruins of the terraced down, some dating back to before the 6th century B.C. Close
