Whether it’s just laying out on the beach at ... Read More Whether it’s just laying out on the beach at Blue Lagoon Island, or feeding the flamingos at the Ardastra Gardens, Zoo and Conservation Center, it’s all about relaxation and recreation in Nassau.

With a host of beaches all over the island, you’ll have no trouble finding a sandy paradise to catch some rays. But if you’re looking to get on that water, you’ll want to sign up for one of the island’s boat “adventures”. You’ll go snorkeling over coral reefs in crystal clear water, feed wild stingray, sharks and iguanas on one of Power Boat Adventures or Island World Adventures cruises. Or if you want to keep it classy, try hiring one of Sail Nassau’s yachts for a ride around the island in style.

Nassau also boasts some excellent and eclectic sightseeing. The Cloisters are a tourist favorite: these 12th century French cloisters were important to the islands piece by piece and re-assembled…imperfectly. The nearby Versailles Gardens adds a French air to the experience. Ascend the Queen’s Staircase, carved into the limestone cliffs by slaves in 1790 on your way to the 18th century Fort Fincastle. Or venture up the white Water Tower-cum-lighthouse, where you’ll be treated to the island’s best panoramas from 200 feet up.

If you’re traveling over Christmas, be sure to stay for the Junkanoo Celebration, where locals dance down Bay Street in the town’s center, outfitted in colorful, opulent costumes, and where music and merry times take the day. Close
